Why is it called Omega 3?
Nutritionists name one end of a molecule the Alpha end and the other the Omega end. The first double bond is found 3 positions in from the Omega end (you got it! Omega 6 has the double bond 6 positions in from the Omega end!).
Recommended Daily intake is what RDI means. It’s not an RDA (recommended daily amount) because there is not really an upper limit on how much Omega 3 you can take. You should have at least 450milligrammes per day (about ½ a gram put another way). Not hard really. A slice of salmon has 2500 milligrams which the Japanese who are really healthy have every day. But not us.
